Product Spotlight: Infant Nutrition Guide

Printers know that successfully completing jobs with "out-of-the-ordinary" requirements helps build trust and create customer loyalty. While many of these challenges are business as usual for commercial printers, unusual post-press requirements require specialized capabilities and expertise. By involving a trusted binding and finishing partner, printers can turn these challenges into opportunities to create long-term value for everyone involved.

The Challenge
We were contacted by our customer to help them with a high-profile project: a nutrition guide for new mothers from an internationally-known consumer brand. The specifications included a landscape binding format, full ink and coating coverage on most pages and a series of tabs along the book's face. The book also included an unusually high number of forms - nearly 30, including some four-page forms - for such a thin (1/4") book. Last but not least, the end client needed an initial run of 20,000 books to be delivered in less than 24 hours.

The Process
To ensure consistent spine strength and overall book durability, we bound the books using PUR adhesive. PUR is the strongest binding adhesive available, and is a core capability of ours.

The complex layout of this project required careful trimming work. Books were trimmed inline at the head and foot, but face trimming was omitted for this application due to the index tabs. But by carefully collating the book's many forms and delicately trimming books individually, we maintained consistently high quality of the finished products.

The Results
A tight turnaround schedule, specialty production processes, superior quality demands and a high-profile brand - this project presented several challenging factors, but Schultz successfully delivered the 20,000 books on-time and to the high quality requirements of the end client. By working in partnership with our customer and communicating frequently and thoroughly, a potentially difficult job was made much easier for everyone involved.
